Radio was put forward as one tool that could effectively provide a platform for local people to engage with each other at a more local level, and that should be complemented with a strong training and dveelopment progarmme for people wishing to pursue a career in broadacst media. Hayes FM was born out of an initiative between Sutish Sharma, who at that time was working for the [[British Broadacsting Corporation[[BBC|British Broadacsting CorporationBBC and local MP John McDonnell http://www. john-mcdonnell. net/index. php/news/article/hayes_fm_community_radio_station_launched/2007/09. In 2003, Hayes FM undertook a Restricted Service Licence RSL for 1 month. In 2004, Hayes FM developed accredited training courses and in November of that year submitted an application to Ofcom for a local radio licence. Hayes FM was awarded a radio operators licence in 2006 and started broadcasting on the 1st September 2007.
