- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second instalment in the Harry Potter series written by J. K. Rowling. During Harry's second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry a series of messages on the walls on the school's corridors warn that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened and that the "heir of Slytherin" will kill all pupils whose parents are not both magical. These threats are followed by attacks which leave residents of the school petrified. Throughout the year, Harry and his friends Ron, and Hermione investigate the attacks, and Harry is confronted by Lord Voldemort in an attempt to regain full power. The book was published in the UK on 2 July 1998 by Bloomsbury and in the US on 2 June 1999 by Scholastic Inc. Although Rowling found it difficult to finish the book, it won high praise from critics and awards from critics, young readers and the book industry, although some critics thought the story was perhaps too frightening for younger children. Some religious authorities have condemned its use of magical themes, while others have praised its emphasis on self-sacrifice and on the way in which a person's character is the result of the person's choices. Several commentators have noted that personal identity is a strong theme in the book, and that it addresses issues of racism through the treatment of non-magical, non-human and non-living characters. Some commentators regard the diary as a warning against uncritical acceptance of information from sources whose motives and reliability cannot be checked. Institutional authority is portrayed as self-serving and incompetent. The film version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, released in 2002, became the third film to exceed $600 million in international box office sales and received generally favourable reviews. However, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers won the Saturn Award for the Best Fantasy Film. Video games loosely based on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets were also released for several platforms, and most obtained favourable reviews.

El llibre va ser llançat al mercat el 1998, i la pel·lícula basada en aquest llibre va sortir el 2002. La pel·lícula és, probablement, la més fidel al llibre de tota la sèrie, al costat de Harry Potter i la pedra filosofal. En Harry del llibre és molt semblant al primer: pensa que és insuportable viure a la casa dels seus oncles, mentre opina que Hogwarts és el millor lloc del món. No obstant això, la trama varia i en Harry es troba amb una responsabilitat major que en el primer llibre de la sèrie. Al contrari del primer llibre (que tractava més sobre Hogwarts i la comunitat màgica), el segon mostra a en Harry dubtós sobre si mateix, com per exemple, a l'arribar a pensar que va havia d'haver estat escollit per a Slytherin i no per a Gryffindor. Aquest pensament el tortura tot el llibre, i fins i tot li arriba a preguntar al Barret que tria sobre la seva decisió.

- Harry Potter y la cámara secreta es el segundo libro de la serie Harry Potter escrita por J. K. Rowling. El libro fue lanzado al mercado en 1998, y la película basada en éste salió en el 2002. La película es, probablemente, de la serie, la más fiel al libro, junto a Harry Potter y la piedra filosofal. El Harry del libro es muy parecido al primero: Harry piensa que es insoportable vivir en la casa de sus tíos, mientras opina que Hogwarts es el mejor lugar del mundo. Sin embargo, la trama varía y Harry se encuentra con una responsabilidad mayor que en el primer libro de la serie. Al contrario del primer libro (que se trataba más acerca de Hogwarts y la comunidad mágica), el segundo muestra a Harry dudoso acerca de sí mismo, como por ejemplo, el llegar a pensar que debió haber sido escogido para Slytherin y no para Gryffindor. Este pensamiento lo tortura todo el libro, e incluso le llega a preguntar al Sombrero Seleccionador de su decisión.

Vaikka Rowling koki kirjan lopettamisen vaikeaksi, se sai hyviä arvosteluja kriitikoilta ja nuorilta lukijoilta, vaikka kriitikot ajattelivatkin sen olevan turhan pelottava nuoremmille lapsille. Kirjasta on tehty myös samanniminen elokuva, joka ilmestyi vuonna 2002 ja josta tuli kolmas elokuva joka tuotti yli 600 miljoonan lipputulot. Taru sormusten herrasta: Kaksi tornia voitti kuitenkin Saturn-palkinnon parhaasta fantasiaelokuvasta. Harryn toisena vuonna Tylypahkan noitien ja velhojen koulussa koulun seiniin ilmestyy sarja varoituksia, jotka kertovat Salaisuuksien kammion avautuneen ja että "Luihuisen perillinen" tappaa kaikki koulun oppilaat, joiden vanhemmat eivät ole velhoja. Näitä uhkauksia seuraa sarja hyökkäyksiä, joiden seurauksena koulun oppilaita löydetään kangistuneina. Koulu vuoden aikana Harry ja hänen ystävänsä Ron ja Hermione tutkivat hyökkäyksiä ja Harry kohtaa jälleen täysiä voimiaan havittelevan Lordi Voldemortin.
- Harry Potter et la chambre des secrets est le second tome de la série littéraire centrée sur le personnage d'Harry Potter créé par J. K. Rowling. Même si la couverture est de Jean-Claude Götting, il est intéressant de noter qu'à l'instar du tome précédent, la toute première édition de 1999 est, elle aussi, illustrée à l'intérieur par Emily Walcker, au niveau des entêtes de chapitres. Ces illustrations seront elles aussi supprimées dès la ré-impression. Même si ce tome 2 a cette fois-ci bénéficié d'un tirage plus important que le premier, il fut épuisé très rapidement, et comme pour le tome 1, la première édition est assez rare et convoitée par les collectionneurs du fait justement de cette particularité. C'est le dernier épisode à connaître les illustrations d'Emily Walcker. Le suivant paraîtra en première édition à l'identique de ses rééditions futures (du moins à l'intérieur) : dépourvu d'illustrations. Contrairement au premier tome en revanche, la première édition du tome 2 comporte cette fois d'emblée le texte intégral de l'œuvre.

Însă prietenul său Ron Weasley reuşeşte, cu ajutorul maşinii zburătoare a tatălui său, să-l aducă acasă la familia sa. În al doilea an şcolar, Harry şi prietenii săi învaţă vrăji noi, însă în urma unor semne misterioase (de exemplu, un mesaj scris cu sânge pe peretele şcolii) profesorii concluzionează Camera Secretelor deschisă, ceea ce pune în primejdie viitorul şcolii Hogwarts. După semnele misterioase urmează pietrificarea unor fiinţe, printre care şi elevi care nu făceau parte din familiile vrăjitorilor cu sânge pur Se spune că moştenitorul lui Salazar (unul dintre fondatorii şcolii şi patronul casei Viperinilor) a deschis această cameră, iar după lecţia de Apărare contra Magiei Negre, unde Harry a vorbit cu un şarpe, toţi presupun că el este acel moştenitor (se cunoştea că Salazar cunoştea limba şerpilor). Trecând prin multe încurcături, Harry găseşte un jurnal ce îi aparţinuse lui Tom Riddle şi află despre întâmplările din şcoală atunci când fusese deschisă ultima data Camera Secretelor, cu 50 de ani în urmă. Între timp Hermione, o prietenă bună şi un ajutor de nădejde, este pietrificată şi Harry află despre existenţa monstrului ce a pietrificat toate persoanele, un basilisc, şi realizează cum se deplasează acesta nevăzut prin şcoală, şi anume prin ţevi. Micul magician reuşeşte să deschidă Camera Secretelor folosind limba şerpilor şi găseşte sălaşul basiliscului, unde îl întâlneşte pe Riddle şi pe sora mai mică a lui Ron, Ginny. Află că Riddle folosise jurnalul şi prin intermediul lui pe Ginny astfel încât să revină la forma umană, el fiind în realitate Lordul Cap-de-Mort (Voldemort), acel vrăjitor de care toţi se tem. Harry încearcă să se lupte cu basiliscul, dar, fiind abia în al doilea an, acesta îl domină. Loialitatea faţă de Dumbledore îl ajută, phoenixul acestuia (Fawkes) aducându-i sabia lui Godric Cercetaş (patronul casei sale) şi astfel câştigă. Ginny este eliberată de vrajă, iar Harry devine un erou. Doctorul şcolii termină poţiunea de mătrăgună şi toţi copii pietrificaţi revin la viaţă.
