Promoted to be the Chancellor of Dublin Cathedral he also served on its Diocesan Education Board and was later Dean of Ferns before elevation to the Episcopate as the 3rd Bishop of the United Diocese of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh. His wife Catherine survived him by 13 years.
