  • Hail and Farewell, Gothenburg is an unreleased recording by The Mountain Goats. It was the intended sequel to the album Sweden. It held a mythical status among fans for over a decade, but it was leaked out onto the internet around the turn of 2007 and is now widely available on file sharing programs. John Darnielle, in a post on his official message board, has gone on to say that the album "is mastered too fast, by the way - the voice and guitar on it are about a full tone higher than they were actually performed. " Due to leaks like this one, he went on, he now destroys any masters that he does not want to escape without his blessing. This includes about fifteen songs that did not make the cut for All Hail West Texas. Darnielle continues "I'm just kinda touchy about this subject, since it does seem like people often say "hey, if you didn't want people to hear it, you shouldn't have even recorded it," which is, as I say, pretty limiting to one's creativity."
