De bebouwing van Grootebroek is vandaag de dag volledig samengesmolten met die van Bovenkarspel, zodat beide dorpen in feite één woonkern vormen. Op de grens met Bovenkarspel ligt het grote winkelcentrum Streekhof, dat een regionale functie heeft. Net aan de andere kant van de grens ligt het treinstation Bovenkarspel-Grootebroek, die zo genaamd is omdat het zogoed als direct aan de grens van Grootebroek ligt.
