Grindie is a form of music that emerged in early 2006. It is a fusion of both indie and grime music. Arguably, the first release to fall into the grindie subgenre was a song by Marvin the Martian aka Marv the Marsh and his group Why Lout? sampling Art Brut's "Emily Kane" to make a song called 'Stay Off The Kane', which was released as a free download through Artrocker and was downloaded over 30,000+ times within two months.

The genre has proliferated, so that there are bands forming that truly 'fit' into the grindie genre, rather than DJs using samples of indie tracks and getting MCs to rap over them. Bands like Hadouken! use the normal features of a rock based band (guitars, bass, etc. ) but with MCing, not unlike Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and Gym Class Heroes. Some bands, following the fusion of grime and other, more rock-orientated sounds, have developed their own innovations outside of the genre. Some critics have accused it of being a press invention.
- Le Grindie est un genre musical à mi-chemin entre le rock dit indie (plus connu en France sous le nom de rock indépendant) et le grime.
