- Greater China is a term use to refer to commercial ties, cultural interactions, and prospects for political unification among ethnic Chinese. As a "phrase of the moment", the precise meaning is not entirely clear, and people may use it for only the commercial ties, only the cultural actions, or only the political prospects, while others may use it for some combination of three. Usage of the term may also vary as to the geographic regions it is meant to imply. Usage of the term may include only mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, while other usages include Singapore, and still others include overseas Chinese living anywhere in the world.
- Als Großchina (seltenerer auch Größeres China) wird der gesamte chinesisch beeinflusste Raum in Ost- und Südostasien bezeichnet, der neben der Volksrepublik China, Republik China und Singapur, die mehrheitlich von Chinesen bewohnt werden, auch andere Länder umfasst, in denen große Gemeinden von Auslandschinesen existieren. In den entsprechenden Ländern, wie Thailand, Malaysia und Indonesien, wird dieser Begriff allerdings nicht gern gehört, weil die dortige nicht-chinesische Mehrheit die nationale Selbstständigkeit betont. Durch die lange Tradition als Händler, Großgrundbesitzer und Kollaborateure der westlichen Kolonialmächte ist ein Teil der chinesischen Minderheit vermögend geworden. Die arme Stadt- und Landbevölkerung in Südostasien ließ sich in der Vergangenheit öfter zu anti-chinesischen Pogromen aufhetzen, insbesondere von den indonesischen Militärmachthabern, die einen Sündenbock brauchten.

É também o objetivo dos nacionalistas chineses criar um estado chinês unificado incluindo essas áreas. A República Popular da China controla a China continental, Hong Kong e Macau, se bem que os dois últimos territórios sejam governados como regiões administrativas especiais. Hong Kong foi entregue pelo Reino Unido em 1997 e Macau foi entregue por Portugal em 1999. Por esse motivo, o problema pendente é a reunificação entre Taiwan e a China continental.
