- Grailquest is a series of gamebooks by J. H. Brennan. The books are illustrated by John Higgins. The series is (usually) set in King Arthur's realm of Avalon, and follows the adventures of a young hero named Pip. Pip is often called upon by Merlin to right wrongs and save the realm from evil. The series is light in tone and does not take itself seriously, often spoofing the fantasy genre and inserting a lot of pure slapstick humor or nonsensical elements in order to make the book a fun read. Occasionally there is more serious drama, but this is usually reserved for very special moments. The fourth volume, Voyage of Terror, takes place almost entirely in ancient Greece, after Merlin's summoning spell goes wrong. Pip spends the adventure travelling with Jason and the Argonauts, encountering enemies from Greek mythology while trying to find a way back to Avalon. While there were eight total books published in the series, books seven and eight were never published in the United States, where the series seemed to end with Realm of Chaos. In Europe, however, the books have remained in print ever since their publication, where they have enjoyed considerable success especially in France and Eastern Europe.

È il mago Merlino che con un incantesimo trasporta il lettore nel corpo di un giovane avventuriero. Pubblicati in lingua originale dal 1984 al 1987, sono stati introdotti in Italia dalla casa editrice Edizioni EL, che ha pubblicato tutti gli 8 libri dal 1987 al 1993. Tratto distintivo della serie è l'umorismo, che caratterizza personaggi e situazioni. Protagonista è il giovane avventuriero Pip, impersonato dal lettore, forte e coraggioso ma incline a cacciarsi ingenuamente nei guai. Accanto a lui ci sono il mago Merlino, strambo, farfallone e un po' rimbambito, la spada parlante (e petulante) Excalibur Junior (versione ridotta della famosa Excalibur) e il grottesco Demone Poetico. I nemici da affrontare sono classici (maghi, draghi, cavalieri, morti viventi) ma anche strani al limite dell'assurdo (professori di matematica, conigli vampiri, galline carnivore e molti altri). Le avventure si svolgono prevalentemente nel Regno di Avalon, ma non mancano sconfinamenti in universi paralleli, altri piani astrali e persino nell'antica Grecia (causa errore di Merlino).
