- Gordon Liu (劉家輝; Lau Kar-Fai; Liu Jia Hui, formerly spelled Liu Chia-Hui, born Xian Jinxi; born November 30, 1955) is a Chinese martial arts film actor. Best known by Western moviegoers for his role as Pai Mei in Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), and as Johnny Mo in Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003), the head general of the Crazy 88, O-Ren Ishii's personal army. Elsewhere, Liu is known for his role as San Te from The 36th Chamber of Shaolin and its sequels from which he adopted his shaved head style. Some fans call him the "Master Killer" after the alternate title to The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. He is also known to Indian fans as Hojo in Warner Bros' first Bollywood movie Chandni Chowk to China He was born in Guangdong Province, China and is the adopted brother of famed Shaw Brothers directors and actors Lau Kar-Leung (Liu Chia-Liang) and Lau Kar-Wing (Liu Chia-Yung). In his youth, he skipped school to train in martial arts without his parents' knowledge. He trained at Lau Charn's martial arts school of Hung Gar discipline, which descended from Wong Fei Hung's grand student. Lau Charn's wife assisted in his training and their friendship eventually led to his adoption into Lau's family, and he received the name Lau Kar Fai. As he grew up, he found a job as a shipping clerk to make ends meet. His interests had always been towards martial arts and he was eventually offered a role by Lau Kar Leung. His name prior to being adopted was Xian Qixi.

Quentin Tarantino brachte ihn wieder vor ein breites Publikum mit den Filmen Kill Bill – Volume 1 als Johnny Mo, sowie 2004 in Kill Bill – Volume 2 als Pai Mei, einer Rolle, die als Hommage an seine Rolle als San-Te entwickelt wurde.

Col nome d'arte di Lau Kar Fai, il novello attore raggiunge la notorietà internazionale grazie ad una fortunata serie di film ispirati alle vicende del monastero Shaolin. Con personaggi come San Te in 36th Chamber of Shaolin, diviene un divo del genere, unendo le arti marziali ad un'alta dose di patriottismo. Il look con la testa rasata lo accompagnerà per tutta la carriera, procurandogli anche qualche piccolo incidente in famiglia (un giorno si presenta a casa con un parrucchino e sua moglie, che non lo riconosce, non lo fa entrare). Gira circa 200 film tra cinema e serial-tv, si sposa due volte, ha quattro figli, e due volte divorzia. Più tardi l'attore conoscerà nuova fama grazie al regista Quentin Tarantino, che lo sceglie per il suo Kill Bill. Il regista vuole creare un film citazionistico servendosi di attori famosi del genere, e Liu è perfetto per questo. In Kill Bill vol. 2 interpreta il ruolo di Pai Mei e in Kill Bill vol. 1 nel ruolo di Johnny Mo, il capo degli 88 folli, l'esercito personale di O-Ren Ishii (indossa una mascherina nera che cita Kato, il personaggio de Il calabrone verde interpretato da Bruce Lee). Proprio come il fratello, Liu è un praticante dell'Hung Gar, di cui non è però "sifu" (maestro), cioè non lo insegna, diversamente da suo fratello. Se ne dichiara solo amante e studioso. È uno degli stili delle arti marziali cinesi più diffusi ad Hong Kong. Gordon Liu è recentemente apparso nel documentario "L'urlo di Chen terrorizza ANCORA l'Occidente" (Dragonland, di Lorenzo De Luca, 2007), intervistato assieme al suo mentore Lau Kar Leung e a molti altri. Il documentario segna il suo primo viaggio a Roma, nel giugno 2008, per una serie di interviste ed incontri che riscuotono successo presso fans vecchi e nuovi, rivelandolo non solo eroe del kung-fu, ma anche valente cantante, chitarrista e pianista. Il viaggio in Italia ed il sodalizio con lo sceneggiatore ed esperto di cinema kung-fu Lorenzo De Luca, fanno nascere l'idea di un remake in chiave moderna del monaco Shaolin calato nella metropoli romana contemporanea.
