The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards is a film festival and awards ceremony held annually in Taiwan. It was founded in 1962, by Government Information Office, Republic of China (Taiwan). The awards ceremony is usually held in November or December in Taipei, though the venue has been shifted around the island in recent times. The festival and awards are organised by Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee and is Taiwan's equivalent to the Academy Awards.

Seit 2002 begann man nicht mehr nur chinesische Filmschaffende in die Jury zu berufen, sondern sie auch für international bekannte Persönlichkeiten der Filmwelt zu öffnen. Beiträge aus der Volksrepublik China wurden erst seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre zugelassen, jedoch nur sofern ihre Produktionsfirma in Hongkong registriert war. Seit 1980 besteht das Festival aus zwei Teilen, einem rein chinesischen Teil auf dem dann auch die Golden Horse Awards für besten chinesischsprachigen Filme vergeben werden und einem internationalen Teil, auf dem Filme aus aller Welt dem taiwanischen Publikum vorgestellt werden.

Submission period are usually around July to August each year and nominations are announced around October with the ceremony held in November or December. Winners are selected by a jury of judges and awarded a Golden Horse statuette during the broadcast ceremony.
