- Golden Axe Warrior is an action-adventure game spin-off of the popular Golden Axe game series. The game was released on the Sega Master System in 1991. The plot of the game followed a young warrior who was trying to avenge the death of his parents by exploring ten labyrinths, collecting nine missing crystals and battling with Death Adder inside the last. All the major characters from Golden Axe — the warrior Ax Battler, the amazon Tyris Flare, and the dwarf Gilius Thunderhead — help the player throughout the game by bestowing him with magic. Although some gaming magazines derided it for being a rip off of The Legend of Zelda, the game is commonly welcomed as a SEGA classic, and many Sega fans feel that it is an equal to the first game in the series, where the player needs to cross a big world with many enemies seeking out the mysterious labyrinths, where the crystals are guarded by many monsters and finally a boss. It is often speculated that this was actually the intended first entry into a series, but rumors of any planned sequels are, as far as is known, baseless. A Game Gear title was apparently planned, but became another game instead .
