Going Postal is Terry Pratchett's 33rd Discworld novel, released in the United Kingdom on September 25, 2004. Unusually for a Discworld novel, Going Postal is divided into chapters, previously only seen in the children's books and the Science of Discworld series. These chapters begin with a synopsis of philosophical themes, in a similar manner to some Victorian novels and, notably, to Jules Verne stories. The title refers to both the contents of the novel, as well as to the term 'going postal'.

This was the first time Pratchett had been shortlisted for either award.

Il nome viene dallo slang americano "Going postal", simile a going crazy (diventare pazzi), per indicare quando una persona diviene improvvisamente furiosa; il titolo è un gioco di parole tra questa espressione e i problemi pazzeschi dell'ufficio postale di Ankh-Morpork. L'intero romanzo è una parodia e un rifiuto delle tesi del romanzo "Atlas Shrugged" (La rivolta di Atlante), di Ayn Rand.

Utwór – odmiennie niż poprzednie części cyklu – jest podzielony na rozdziały. Każdy z nich jest, na wzór XIX-wiecznych powieści, poprzedzony kilkuhasłową zapowiedzią mających w nim nastąpić zdarzeń. Oryginalny tytuł "going postal" w amerykańskim slangu oznacza bycie wściekłym, zestresowanym z powodu swojej pracy aż do posunięcia się do przemocy. W przypadku tej książki jest to także gra słów: "going postal" może być zinterpretowane jako wyrażenie oznaczające, zgodnie z treścią powieści, "powstawanie poczty". Piekło pocztowe jest pierwszą powieścią Pratchetta nominowaną do nagrody Nebula (w 2005 roku).
