Im Quartett mit den ebenfalls dort beteiligten Eric Stewart (Gitarre und Gesang) und Graham Gouldman bildeten sie anschließend 1972 die Hotlegs und ab 1973 die Band 10cc. 1976 trennten sich Godley & Creme vom Rest von 10cc und waren künftig als Duo tätig. Ihre ab 1976 erschienenen Alben sind spannungsvoll in einem eigenständigen Grenzbereich zwischen Progressive Rock und New Wave. Die Produktionen zeichneten sich durch Experimentierfreude und exzellente Studiotechnik aus. Das Publikum war begeistert und man konnte rasch zahlreiche Hits verbuchen, u.a. „Englishman In New York“, „Wedding Bells“, „Cry“ und „A Little Piece Of Heaven“. Ab 1982 produzierten sie Video-Clips u.a. für Police, Duran Duran und Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Das Lied „Cry“ bildete das musikalische Thema einer Folge der Fernsehserie Miami Vice.
