Go Tell It on the Mountain is a 1953 semi-autobiographical novel by James Baldwin. The novel examines the role of the Christian Church in the lives of African-Americans, both as a source of repression and moral hypocrisy and as a source of inspiration and community. It also, more subtly, examines racism in the United States. The story is characteristic of a bildungsroman. Time Magazine included the novel in its TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005.

Quando comprende l'origine della mancanza di emotività del patrigno, sarà anche in grado di perdonare la malevolenza e i pregiudizi e quindi di mettersi a confronto con il mondo esterno. L'amico lo aiuterà anche a scoprire la propria sessualità, considerata "diversa", (il tema dell'omosessualità ritornerà in tutti i libri di Baldwell e in questo primo romanzo sarà resa in modo delicato e poetico) che viene presentata come una salvezza.
