Gliese 876 is a red dwarf star approximately 15 light-years away from Earth in the constellation of Aquarius (the Water-bearer). As of 2008, it has been confirmed that three extrasolar planets orbit the star. Two of the planets are similar to Jupiter, while the closest planet is thought to be similar to a small Neptune or a large Earth.

Obwohl er als roter Zwerg der Spektralklasse M4 V nur ein Drittel so groß ist wie die Sonne, wird er von mindestens drei Exoplaneten umkreist. Zwei davon sind jupiterähnliche Gasriesen. Das erste Planemo wurde 1998 von Geoffrey Marcy und Kollegen entdeckt, das zweite im Januar des Jahres 2001. Diese beiden Planeten haben 0,6 und 1,8 Jupitermassen und ihre Umlaufperioden betragen 30,1 und 60,7 Tage . Der dritte, sehr weit innen kreisende Begleiter wurde im Juni 2005 entdeckt und war bis zur Entdeckung von Gliese 581 c im April 2007 der kleinste bekannte Planet außerhalb unseres Sonnensystems. Seine Umlaufperiode beträgt knapp 2 Tage und seine Temperatur wird auf 200 bis 400 °C geschätzt. Sein Bahnradius liegt bei etwa 3 Millionen Kilometern, was nur etwa einem Zwanzigstel des Bahnradius von Merkur entspricht.

Een tweede wat kleinere Jupiterachtige planeet (876c) draait in precies de helft van de tijd om de ster, op een afstand van 19,5 miljoen kilometer. Deze planeet is ongeveer half zo zwaar als Jupiter. In juni 2005 werd bekend gemaakt dat er ook een aardachtige planeet (876d) in het stelsel aanwezig is. Deze planeet heeft een massa van 7½ keer die van de aarde en draait op de minieme afstand van 3 miljoen kilometer in 1,94 dagen zijn baantjes. Met een afstand van ruim 15 lichtjaar zijn deze planeten op Epsilon Eridani na de dichtste bij de aarde ontdekte exoplaneten.
