Ein Projekt dort beinhaltete The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Sorrentino war Professor für Englisch an der Stanford University von 1982 bis 1999. Unter seinen Studenten waren u.a. der Schriftsteller Jeffrey Eugenides. Sorrentinos Sohn, Christopher Sorrentino, ist der Autor der Bücher Sound on Sound und Trance.
