- The Genie is a fictional character and a protagonist from the Disney animated features canon movie Aladdin, as well as related series and sequels. He was portrayed by Robin Williams in the first film, though the role was later taken over by Dan Castellaneta after a contract dispute between Williams and the Walt Disney Company. Castellaneta continued to voice the Genie throughout Aladdin the Series, as well as the direct-to-video feature The Return of Jafar, before Williams reprised the role for the final installment of the franchise, Aladdin and the King of Thieves. Castellaneta also voiced Genie in the Kingdom Hearts series by Square Enix and Buena Vista Games. Like most popular depictions of genies, Disney's Genie was originally a slave. Though he possessed "phenomenal cosmic powers", he was bound to an "itty-bitty living space" and could only use his powers when the owner of the lamp (his master) made a wish; he occasionally does things without granting a wish, but never anything that greatly affects the world around him. He is also bound by 3 laws; He can't kill anyone, he can't make people fall in love and he can't revive the dead. It is possible, however, that he can do the third one, but that, as he puts it; "It's not a pretty picture. I don't like doing it!". Each master has three such wishes, and cannot exceed this amount by wishing for more wishes. The lamp came into the possession of the character Aladdin during the course of the first film, and he remained in servitude until Aladdin used his third and final wish to grant Genie his freedom at the end of the film. As well as largely driving the plot in the first movie, the Genie serves as a comic relief element in each of his appearances. He is shown to have shapeshifting abilities, which allow for many and varied sight gags. The Genie's supernatural disposition permits him to break the fourth wall, as well as parody real-life people and popular culture completely outside of the boundaries of the fictional universe in which he is contained. Robin Williams is responsible for most of these because he improvised many of the lines in the film. The Genie's true name, if he has one, has never been revealed; he answers to being called "Genie", and never says that he does have a real name. Along with the character of Iago, Genie is one of the most well recognized of characters from Disney's Aladdin franchise.

- Genio è un genio dalla pelle blu che viene liberato da Aladdin dalla lampada nella Caverna delle Meraviglie dopo 10000 anni di prigionia. Il suo ultimo padrone era stato un uomo malvagio che aveva espresso i tre desideri per commettere nefandezze. Per questo il Genio trova una spiccata simpatia per Aladdin (che viene soprannominato dal Genio Al. Infatti capisce subito che è completamente diverso dal suo ultimo padrone, poiché vede in lui il grande cuore che possiede. Ciò viene confermato dal primo desiderio che il Genio deve eseguire: far diventare lo straccione Aladdin un grande principe, Ali Ababwa, per conquistare il cuore della principessa Jasmine, figlia del sultano di Agrabah. Detto fatto Aladdin diviene un principe e intorno a lui ci sono danzatrici, animali esotici e grandi ricchezze. Il ragazzo arriva ad Agrabah sul dorso di un magnifico elefante . Ma alla principessa Jasmine da un'impressione ben differente in quanto in un'accesa conversazione tra Aladdin, il Sultano e Jafar,essa si sente trattata come un oggetto, "un trofeo da vincere" per l'appunto e non vuole cedere all'idea di sposare Aladdin, mentre al Sultano il ragazzo piace immediatamente, specie grazie al Tappeto Volante su cui si diletta. Ma Al, grazie ad un giro sul tappeto, riesce a rivelare a Jasmine i suoi veri sentimenti e così i due decidono di sposarsi. Ma mentre il Sultano dà l'annuncio, Jafar, il terribile Gran Visir del Sultano, ruba la lampada e diviene il nuovo padrone del Genio. Come primo desiderio il riluttante Genio lo trasforma nel nuovo Sultano di Agrabah, che però non ha grandi influenze verso il precedente regnante e sua figlia Jasmine; il visir allora esprime il desiderio di diventare un potentissimo stregone e schiavizza i due, spedendo Aladdin lontano da Agrabah. Ma grazie al tappeto, Aladdin ritorna e affronta lo stregone Jafar. La lotta è impari ma l'astuzia di Aladdin gioca sull'orgoglio di Jafar: infatti egli lo deride perché lui non sarà mai il più potente dell'Universo poiché il Genio sarà sempre più potente di lui. Jafar allora esprime il suo terzo ed ultimo desiderio: si fa trasformare egli stesso in un Genio potentissimo. Ed è qui che Aladdin ha la meglio. Infatti Jafar ora ha la potenza dell'Universo nelle sue dita, ma è ridotto a essere schiavo della sua lampada. Una volta rinchiuso Jafar nella lampada,Aladdin, tornato il padrone del Genio fa riportare con il secondo desiderio l'ordine nella città di Agrabah. Il Genio invita il ragazzo ad esprimere di nuovo il desiderio di essere un principe così può sposare Jasmine, e Aladdin chiede di liberare il Genio dalla sua schiavitù. Con grande sorpresa di tutti, il Genio si ritrova libero, senza più i polsini che lo legano alla lampada dorata. Colpita dalla sua generosità, Jasmine chiede al padre di cambiare la legge per permetterle di sposare un umile ragazzo dal cuore d'oro piuttosto che un principe altezzoso, e il Sultano dà alla coppia la sua benedizione.
