Fr. Gérard Jean-Juste (February 7, 1946 – May 27, 2009) was a Roman Catholic priest and rector of Saint Claire's church for the poor in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He was also a liberation theologian and a supporter of the Fanmi Lavalas political party, the largest in Haiti. In 1978, Father Jean-Juste founded the Haitian Refugee Center in Miami, Florida, United States. He was characterized as a beloved figure among South Florida's Haitian community.

  • Gérard Jean-Juste was een Haïtiaans politiek activist. Jean-Juste was de zoon van een ongehuwde moeder en verliet Haïti om in Canada voor priester te gaan studeren. Later keerde hij terug naar Haïti en werd pastoor van de kerk van Sainte Claire's in Port-au-Prince. Jean-Juste was een bevrijdingstheoloog en aanhanger van de linkse politieke formatie Fanmi Lavalas, de grootste politieke partij van Haïti. Hij stichtte in 1978 het Haïtiaans vluchtelingencentrum van Miami. Jean-Juste was in Haiti en bij de Haïtianen in de diaspora bekend als overtuigd tegenstander van de interimregering van eerste minister Gérard Latortue, die in 2004 aan de macht was gekomen na de bloedige staatgreep tegen de regering van Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Jean-Juste werd in november 2004 door de politie vrijgelaten na zeven weken opsluiting. In juli 2005 werd hij opnieuw opgepakt door de Haïtiaanse autoriteiten en werd pas in januari 2006 tijdelijk vrijgelaten om een behandeling tegen leukemie in Miami te ondergaan.
