- The Frisco NBA Development League team is a temporary name given to a team that will play in the NBA Development League. On June 18, 2009, the NBDL awarded the city of Frisco, Texas with a relocated franchise. Previously known as the Colorado 14ers, Frisco will begin play in the 2010-11 season and will play at the Dr Pepper Arena. The team will be owned by Texas D-League Management, LLC, which is principally owned by Donnie Nelson, general manager and President of Basketball operations for the Dallas Mavericks and son of Golden State Warriors head coach Don Nelson. The ownership group also includes Evan Wyly, chairman of Green Mountain Energy, the United States' leading cleaner electricity company. Past 14ers owner Tim Wiens will retain a minority stake in the team. A contest has been announced on sportslogos. net to pick the team's name. The five choices are: Iron Horses, RailRiders, Marauders, Rustlers and Conductors. The names were selected to honor Frisco's history as a railway watering hole used to connect the San Francisco-St. Louis railway (of which the City got its name.)
