- The Free Standards Group was an industry non-profit consortium chartered to primarily specify and drive the adoption of open source standards. All standards developed by the Free Standards Group (FSG) were released under open terms (the GNU Free Documentation License with no cover texts or invariant sections) and test suites, sample implementations and other software were released as open source. On January 22, 2007, the Free Standards group and the OSDL merged to form The Linux Foundation, narrowing their respective focuses to that of promoting Linux in competition with Microsoft Windows.
- Die Free Standards Group ist eine 1998 gegründete, unabhängige und gemeinnützige Organisation mit dem Ziel, die Nutzung freier und quelloffener Software durch die Entwicklung und Verbreitung entsprechender Standards zu stärken. Das bekannteste Projekt der Free Standards Group ist die Arbeitsgruppe der Linux Standard Base. Die Free Standards Group konzentriert sich zur Zeit auf folgende Hauptaufgaben: Entwickeln und Verbessern bestehender Standards Entwickeln und Implementieren von Test- und Zertifizierungsprogrammen um diese Standards zu unterstützen Durchsetzen des LSB-Labels bei Distributoren und Programmen Die Free Standards Group wird dabei von vielen Unternehmen aus dem Linux-Umfeld unterstützt: Dazu gehören unter anderem: Red Hat, Novell, Mandriva, Conectiva, Progeny, TurboLinux, Red Flag Linux, Miracle Linux, Beijing Co-Create Software Company, Sun Wah Linux, Thiz Linux, IBM, Intel, HP, AMD, Dell, Sun Microsystems, Veritas, BakBone, Google, Qt Software, MySQL, Levanta und viele andere.

- Free Standards Group – niedochodowa organizacja pracująca nad otwartymi standardami obejmującymi specyfikacje serwera o nazwie Linux Standard Base. W październiku 2005 r. organizacja zapowiedziała prace nad standardem o nazwie Linux Standard Base Desktop Projekt. Oba standardy linuksowe zostały zintegrowane w nowej wersji (3.1) Linux Standard Base, która pojawiła się wiosną 2006 roku. Projekt wspierają liczne firmy informatyczne, w tym IBM, Novell, Intel, Hewlett-Packard oraz Dell.
- Free Standards Group — независимая, некоммерческая организация, продвигающая свободное открытое ПО посредством разработки и внедрения стандартов. Один из основных проектов FSG — Linux Standard Base (LSB), а также инициатива интернационализации Linux Internationalization Initiative (Li18nux). Все стандарты, разработанные Free Standards Group распространяются под открытой лицензией (на данный момент под лицензией GNU без дополнений и инвариантных секций). Тестовые наборы, базовые примеры и другое программное обеспечение распространяется с открытым исходным кодом. 21 января 2007 года Free Standards Group путём слияния с Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) образовало новую организацию — The Linux Foundation.
