Op 1 april 2008 werd bekend dat Free Record Shop alle 49 winkels in Noorwegen en Finland verkoopt aan het Amerikaanse Gamestop . In januari 2009 werd bekend dat de keten zich meer gaat toeleggen op de verkoop van games .
