Frederick Oakeley (5 September 1802-1880) was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire and educated at Christ Church, Oxford. He was ordained in 1828 and in 1845 converted from Church of England to Catholicism becoming a canon at Westminster Cathedral in 1852. He is now mainly remembered for his translation of Adeste Fideles (Oh Come All Ye Faithful) into English.
