Francis Veber (born 28 July 1937 in Neuilly-sur-Seine) is a French film director, dialogue writer and screenwriter of Armenian and Jewish heritage. Many of his comedies feature recurring types of characters, named François Pignon and François Perrin. He is the nephew of Tristan Bernard.

Sowohl Das Spielzeug als auch der Der große Blonde mit dem schwarzen Schuh (mit dem damals noch relativ unbekannten Tom Hanks) wurden auf diese Weise mit mäßigem internationalen Erfolg umgesetzt. Les scénarios de Veber privilégient le burlesque et sont réglés sur une mécanique boulevardière. À ce jour, son plus gros succès reste Le Dîner de cons, adapté de sa propre pièce, qui fit 9 millions d'entrées en France en 1998.
