- FVD（Forward Versatile Disc），中文名稱為前瞻多功能光碟或紅光高畫質影音光碟（依據FVD官方網站之定名），是由台灣的工業技術研究院（工研院）所主導開發的光碟儲存格式。其目標是在現有DVD與下一世代藍光光碟（HD DVD、Blu-ray Disc）之間作一過渡期，提供一個在兩者世代交替的解決方案。 FVD的全名應為HD-FVD（High Definition - Forward Versatile Disc），其中HD意為高畫質、高解析度、高分辨率、高清晰度（高清）之意，為了方便起見，一般稱之為FVD即可。
- Die Finalized Versatile Disc, abgekürzt HD-FVD, oft auch Forward Versatile Disc genannt, ist ein in Taiwan entwickeltes DVD-Format, das gegenüber einer normalen DVD eine leicht erhöhte Speicherkapazität bietet. Wie auch China mit seiner EVD hat Taiwan mit HD-FVD ein eigenes DVD-Format entwickelt, um die hohen Lizenzkosten von MPEG-2 zu umgehen. Die Scheibe basiert physisch auf einer normalen DVD-ROM, fasst aber dank einer ähnlichen Technik wie Plextors „GigaREC“ und Sanyos „HD-Burn“ statt den normalen 4,7 GB (DVD5) 5,4 GB Daten bzw. statt 8,5 GB (DVD9) 9,8–11 GB an Daten. Als Videocodec wird, wie es bei HD DVD und Blu-ray möglich ist, Microsofts WMV9 (unter dem Namen VC-1) eingesetzt. Das Audioformat ist WMA9. Die HD-FVD benutzt wie eine DVD einen roten Laser (Wellenlänge 650 nm), der kostengünstiger als der von Blu-ray und HD DVD eingesetzte blaue Laser ist. HD-FVDs gibt es in drei verschiedenen Ausführungen: Single Layer (5,4 GB), Double Layer (9,8–11 GB) sowie Triple Layer (15 GB). Die HD-FVD wurde von AOSRA (Taiwan Advanced Optical Storage Research Alliance), einem Zusammenschluss vieler asiatischer Firmen, entwickelt. Genau wie der EVD wird auch der FVD von Experten außerhalb ihres Heimatlandes nur wenig Erfolg prophezeit, da bisher noch kein namhaftes westliches Filmstudio auf das Format setzt und auch der Kopierschutz nicht so effektiv sein dürfte wie bei der HD DVD und der Blu-ray Disc.

The disc is similar in structure to a DVD, in that pit length is the same and a red laser is used to read it, but the track width has been shortened slightly to allow the disc to have 5.4GB of storage per layer as opposed to 4.7GB for a standard DVD. The specification allows for up to three layers for total of 15GB in storage. WMV9 is used as the video codec allowing for 135 minutes of 720p video on a dual layer disc and 135 minutes of 1080i video on a 3-layer disc. FVD uses AACS copy protection which is one of the schemes used in both HD DVD and Blu-ray Discs. An FVD disc can either be an FVD-1 or FVD-2 disc: FVD-1: The coding format of the first-generation of FVD adopts 8/16 modulation codes (same as DVD). FVD-2: The second-generation will use the more efficient 8/15 coding for increasing the ECC capability (to avoid DVD patents).

Druga generacja FVD będzie dodatkowo wzbogacona trzecią warstwą, w której pojemność będzie wynosiła: 6,0 GB, 11,0 GB i 15,0 GB, a do odczytywania danych mających 6 GB wykorzystywany będzie czerwony laser o długości fali 660 nm.
