Fort Snelling, originally known as Fort St. Anthony, is a former military fortification located at the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The land at the bottom of the bluff is protected as Fort Snelling State Park, run by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The history of these two areas are intimately connected despite the current split in ownership.

Später wurde es zu Ehren des Oberst Josiah Snelling in Fort Snelling umbenannt. Durch die geografische Lage konnten der Schiffsverkehr des Mississippi und des Minnesota Rivers überwacht werden. Zudem entstand um das Fort eine gute Infrastruktur. In den folgenden Jahren siedelten sich neben verschiedenen Siedlern und unterschiedlichen Kulturen auch eine große Anzahl an Unternehmen an und verwandelten die Gegend in ein pulsierendes Handelszentrum im Nordwesten der USA. Während des Sezessionskrieges diente das Fort als Ausbildungs- und Trainingsstützpunkt für tausende Soldaten der Union Army. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurden große Teile des Stützpunktes modernisiert und erneuert. Letztmals wurde das Fort im Zweiten Weltkrieg verwendet, als es über 300.000 Rekruten als Ausbildungsstätte diente. Nach Ende des Krieges wurde auch das Fort geschlossen und zum Verwaltungszentrum der Veteranen umgewandelt. Heute befindet sich auf einem Teil des Gebiets der Nationalfriedhof, auf welchem über 160.000 Menschen begraben wurden. Er wurde bereits im 19. Jahrhundert errichtet und nach Schließung des Forts ausgedehnt. 1960 wurde das ehemalige Fort als National Historic Landmark eingestuft. Mittlerweile befindet sich auf dem Gelände ein Museumsdorf mit teils wiederaufgebauten Gebäuden und Anlagen.
