His lover, best friend, and other warriors join him for the adventure. Final Fantasy IV introduced innovations that became staples of the Final Fantasy series and role-playing games in general. Its "Active Time Battle" system was used in six subsequent Final Fantasy games. With its character-driven plot, use of new technologies and critically acclaimed score by Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy IV is regarded as a landmark of the series and of the role-playing genre.

En bit in i spelet blir hon slukad av Leviathan, monstrens kung, men kommer tillbaka i en strid mot Golbez, då ännu starkare och äldre. Rydia är väldigt känslig och fysiskt sett väldigt klen men hennes förmåga att åkalla gör henne oumbärlig. Cecil vill men kan inte besegra den onde Golbez då han är fylld av ondska. Han bestämmer sig för att bekämpa den onde kungen och ger sig ut på ett äventyr som tar honom till ett berg för att rena sin själ och ner i underjorden för att skydda dvärgarnas kristaller. Det visar sig sen att Golbez är Cecils bror och till slut står de enade mot den onde trollkarlen Zeromus, som finns på månen. När man först stöter på honom heter han Zeomus men efter att FuZoYa och Golbez dödar honom så mobiliseras hans hat och han förvandlas till Zeromus. Cecil och hans kamrater dödar Zeromus och Cecil drar sig tillbaka från riddarlivet och gifter sig med en kvinna vid namn Rosa.
