Idéalement placée, on peut rejoindre depuis elle, en une demi-heure, autant la montagne, que la mer, ou traverser la frontière française. Les façades et les tours du théâtre-musée de Figueras portent des oeufs et des pains catalans, symboles récurrents dans l'oeuvre dalinienne. La ville comptait 41 115 habitants fin 2007. Un fort accroissement démographique est attendu à l'horizon 2030 avec un doublement probable de la population.
