- Fiction Records is a UK indie label started by Chris Parry in 1978 that is best known as being the home of The Cure for over 20 years. The label's first #1 record was Wish by The Cure in 1992, going #1 in the United Kingdom. After a dormant period of several years, the label was then re-started in January 2004 by Joe Munns, Paul Smernicki and Jim Chancellor as a Polydor imprint. The first release on the 'new' Fiction was the Snow Patrol single "Run" (which entered the UK chart at #5) and album Final Straw which has since gone on to sell over 2 million copies around the world. Fiction has released records from the likes of Stephen Fretwell, Jacknife Lee, Delays, Alberta Cross, Guillemots and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The current Fiction stable includes Ian Brown, The Maccabees, Kate Nash, Elbow, White Lies, Yuksek, Filthy Dukes, and Detroit Social Club.

La première réalisation de la firme est le 45 tours Killing an Arab/ paru le 6 février 1979, qui porte donc le numéro Fics1. A cette époque, le label produit également les oeuvres d'autres groupes comme Purple Hearts, Back To Zero, The Associates, Tim Pope ou Eat. The Cure quitte la maison en 2001 pour Geffen. Fiction Records, devenu une filiale de Polydor, a édité depuis Snow Patrol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Elbow ou encore Kate Nash.

La storia di questa etichetta è strettamente collegata a quella della band The Cure: infatti nel 1978 la band, agli inizi della sua carriera, mandò delle demo tapes a varie delle maggiori etichette discografiche, tra cui la Polydor, per cui lavorava al tempo Chris Parry. Egli fu così colpito dal suono di quel gruppo che decise così di dar vita a un suo progetto finora mai realizzato: la fondazione di una sua etichetta discografica, la Fiction Records appunto, iscrivendo i Cure come prima band gestita. Da allora in avanti Fiction Records è quasi sempre stato sinonimo di Cure, vista l'estensiva produzione del gruppo inglese e la sua fama mondiale, almeno fino al 2001, quando il contratto tra le due parti è terminato, non senza qualche frizione polemica, data soprattutto dalla vendita da parte della Fiction dell'intero catalogo della band alla Universal senza il consenso di Robert Smith, frontman e mente dei Cure. Altri gruppi minori firmati sotto l'etichetta sono stati: Purple Hearts The Associates The Passion Die Warzau Eat Candyland The God Machine L'etichetta è ripartita nel 2004 come imprint della Polydor ed è subito stato successo, grazie all'album Final Straw degli Snow Patrol. Nel suo catalogo corrente spiccano gli Yeah Yeah Yeahs e Ian Brown.
