Production continued in limited numbers until 1968. The 2300 saloon is noteworthy as the first Fiat model to become available with a fully automatic gearbox, which replaced the Saxomat clutch as an optional extra in 1966. Most 2300s and all 2300S coupés had a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox.

Im Unterschied zu seinem Vorgänger hatte es Doppelscheinwerfer. Gleichzeitig wurde das Modell 2300 Special hergestellt. Es hatte die gleiche Motorisierung und den gleichen Radstand, aber etwas größere Außenmaße, einen "edleren" Kühlergrill mit Einfachscheinwerfern und eine bessere Ausstattung. 1968 wurde die Produktion eingestellt. Mit dem gleichen Motor erschien ebenfalls 1961 das zweitürige, von Ghia entworfene Modell 2300 Coupé. Seine Höchstgeschwindigkeit war 175 km/h. Es hatte ein Viergang-Getriebe mit Mittelschaltung und wurde bereits 1964 wieder eingestellt. Parallel dazu gab es bis 1968 das Modell 2300 S Coupé mit einem von Abarth überarbeiteten Motor.
