The Federal Democratic Union of Switzerland is a political party in Switzerland. It was founded in 1975 as a split of the Nationale Aktion, and in 1991 it entered the Swiss National Council. The EDU is a party which is socially conservative, and skeptical toward the European Union. The party opposes equal rights for homosexual couples, and supports the traditional family. Furthermore, the party opposes abortion, euthanasia, and liberal heroin policies.

L'UDF est un parti chrétien majoritairement évangélique opposé à l'avortement, à l'euthanasie et au mariage homosexuel. À l'opposé, il soutient la famille traditionnelle, une politique de la drogue restrictive et se définit comme "socialement à gauche et éthiquement à droite". l'UDF est implantée dans la plupart des cantons suisses, à l'exception de la suisse centrale. Il dispose de députés dans les parlements cantonaux de Berne (6), 5 à Zürich, 3 à Thurgovie et 1 à Vaud. Ce sont des cantons principalement protestants. Au Conseil national, les députés de l'UDF formaient traditionnellement un groupe avec ceux du Parti évangélique suisse. Suite à la perte d'un siège par chacun des deux partis en 2007, ce groupe n'a pu être reconduit. Le conseiller national restant de l'UDF est actuellement sans groupe, après un très bref passage dans le groupe UDC.

Critici die de partij omschrijven als uiterst rechts, hebben het nakijken, uit het stemgedrag van de EDU fractie (men vormt samen met de Evangelische Volkspartij een fractie) in de periode 1999-2003 bleek dat de EDU over het algemeen een centrum tot centrum-rechtse positie innam. De EDU werd in 1975 opgericht. In de kantons Zürich en Vaud was zij een afsplitsing van de nationalistische Nationale Actie en in het kanton Bern een afsplitsing van de gematigde Evangelische Volkspartij. In 1991 werd er voor het eerst een lid van de EDU, Werner Scherrer, in de Nationale Raad gekozen. Bij de verkiezingen van 19 oktober 2003 boekte de EDU een groot succes: de partij kreeg 1,3% van de stemmen en er werden twee EDU'ers in de Nationale Raad gekozen, namelijk Christian Waber en Markus Wäfler. Samen met de centrum-linkse Evangelische Volkspartij vormde de EDU een fractie (Evangelische Fraktiobn) in de Nationale Raad. Bij de parlementsverkiezingen van 21 oktober 2007 verloor de EDU één zetel in de Nationale Raad en behield er één.

Partia została założona w 1975 roku po rozłamie dokonanym w partii Szwajcarscy Demokraci. W 1991 roku partia po raz pierwszy dostała się do parlamentu. W wyborach w 2003 roku partia zdobyła 1,3% głosów co pozwoliło jej na wprowadzenie dwóch posłów. Mimo że w 2007 roku partia zdobyła ponownie 1,3% głosów to jednak pozwoliło jej na wprowadzenie zaledwie jednego kandydata do parlamentu.
