Fangorn in J.R.R. Tolkien's Legendarium, is a forest located in the fictional world of Middle-earth and is the home of the tree shepherds, the Ents. It is named after the oldest Ent, Treebeard or Treebeard after it. Tolkien does however state there is confusion about the two. The Forest of Fangorn provides an important role in The Lord of the Rings novel as does Mirkwood, Doriath and Lothlórien in the Third Age, a time where Sauron challenged Middle-earth to battle and domination.

The forest provides the means by where adventure expands with the breaking up of the Fellowship. Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took are the first to discover the Ents are alive but are dwindling in numbers due to the loss of the Entwives. They were lost because of the events of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. The forest was again damaged severely during the War of the Ring by the forces of Saruman who lived close by in the fortress of Isengard.

Suuruudestaan huolimatta metsä oli Kolmannella Ajalla vain sirpale, Itäkolkka, muinaisesta metsästä, joka oli peittänyt koko Eriadorin Sinivuorilta itään. Metsän huvetessa olivat Fangorniin jääneet eristyksiin kenties Keski-Maan viimeiset entit. Heistä vanhin oli Puuparta. Puuparran sindarinkielisestä nimestä Fangorn koko metsä oli saanut nimensä, ja usein myös metsää kutsuttiin lyhyesti vain Fangorniksi. Huolimatta vaikutelmasta jonka pidempi nimi suomennettuna antaa, se ei tarkoita "Fangorn-entin metsää" omistusmuodossa. Rohirrimin keskuudessa Fangornia kutsuttiin Enttimetsäksi, sillä heidänkin kansantarunsa tunsivat metsässä asuvat Puiden Paimenet. Tarut muuttuivat todellisuudeksi Sormuksen Sodassa, kun entit lähtivät vielä viimeiselle sotamarssilleen; ne kukistivat Rautapihan ja huornit tuhosivat Sarumanin armeijat täydellisesti Ämyrilinnan taistelun päätteeksi.
  • Fangorn, qui signifie Arbre barbu, est une vieille forêt située à l'ouest du Royaume de Rohan, à l'extrémité sud-est des Monts Brumeux dans la vallée de l'Anduin. Elle se trouve à l' est du royaume de l'Isengard, royaume de Saroumane le Blanc. Elle est le reste d'une grande forêt qui couvrait tout l'Eriador et une partie du Beleriand. La rivière Onedlò, « Entwash » en Anglais (traduction sindarine du nom), y prend sa source. Fangorn est habitée par les Ents et porte son nom à cause du principal gardien et plus ancien d'entre eux : Sylvebarbe (« silva » signifiant « forêt » en latin), appelé « Fangorn » ou « Treebeard » (« tree » signifiant arbre, et « beard » barbe) dans la version anglaise.

Сами энты называли его Альдаломэ («тень дерева» на квэнья), Амбарона, Тауреморна («чёрный лес» на квэнья) и Тауреморналомэ («лес чёрных теней» на квэнья).
