Ezra Koenig (born in 1985 in New York, New York) is the lead singer and guitarist of New York based indie pop band Vampire Weekend. His parents lived in the Upper West Side before moving to New Jersey. Ezra grew up in Northern New Jersey. He attended Glen Ridge High School. He is the fourth generation of his family to attend an Ivy League institution. His mother is a therapist. His father is a set supervisor on film sets and has worked in several Spike lee movies.

Before reaching fame as the lead singer of Vampire Weekend, he studied piano with a teacher, he used to play classical pieces most of the time. However, he started getting into rock as a kid so he picked up the guitar and learned almost by himself. He wrote his first song at age 10 called "Bad Birthday Party". He and his band mates met while attending Columbia University, and started the group in Senior year. The name of the group comes from a movie Ezra and his friends made in summer vacations (named Vampire Weekend). Ezra plays the main character: Walcott. Walcott has to go to Cape Cod to tell the mayor that vampires are coming. They self-produced their first album after graduation while concurrently working full-time jobs. Prior to Vampire Weekend, he played in a band called Dirty Projectors and toured Europe with them. MTV selected Ezra Koenig and company as the band of the week. Salon listed Ezra in sexiest men living in 2008 He is featured on an upcoming project called Discovery. Discovery is made up of Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij & Ra Ra Riot's Wes Miles.
