- Experimental rock or avant-garde rock is a type of music based on rock which experiments with the basic elements of the genre, and/or which pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique. Performers may also attempt to individualize their music with unconventional time signatures, instrumental tunings, compositional styles, lyrical techniques, elements of other musical genres, singing styles, instrumental effects or custom-made experimental musical instruments.
- El Rock experimental (Experimental rock, en anglès) o avant-garde rock és un tipus de música basat en el rock amb el que s'experimenta amb els instruments bàsics del gènere, i els empeny als límits comuns de composició i tècnica d'execució. Els artistes intèrprets o executants també poden tractar d'individualitzar la seva música amb marques de temps no convencionals, modificacions dels instruments, diferents estils de composició, tècniques líriques, elements d'altres gèneres musicals, diferents maneres de cantar, efectes instrumentals o instruments musicals experimentals fets a mida.
- Experimentální rock (z anglického Experimental rock) je hudební směr, který vychází z klasického rock and rollu a „experimentuje“ se základními prvky, kterými se rocková hudba vyznačuje. Vznik experimentálního rocku se datuje do 80. let 20. století, avšak jeho počátky lze sledovat až do dob vzniku samotného rock and rollu. Prvky experimentální rocku lze sledovat již u Beatles, zejména na některých jejich skladbách z pozdějšího období. Jedním z novodobých „klasických“ představitelů tohoto směru pak může být např. americká kapela Sonic Youth, v Česku pak Plastic People of the Universe.

Gli artisti possono anche tentare di rivoluzionare la propria musica con strutture ritmiche, stili compositivi, tecniche liriche non convenzionali, elementi di altri generi musicali, stili di cantato, effetti strumentali o provocati da altri strumenti musicali sperimentali su misura.

- Awangardowy rock – rodzaj muzyki rockowej stosujący nietypowe dla muzyki popularnej rozwiązania stylistyczne, rytmiczne, metryczne, melodyczne, aranżacyjne itd. Muzyka rockowa powstała później niż np. jazz i dlatego dojrzała na tyle, żeby wyłonić z siebie rock awangardowy w ok. 6–7 lat po awangardzie jazzowej. Proces ten oczywiście najpierw dotyczył tzw. muzyki poważnej. Skoro tak, awangarda rocka mogła śmiało korzystać z pewnych form awangardowych, które rozwinęły się zarówno w muzyce poważnej jak i jazzowej.
- Экпериментальный рок — музыкальный стиль, основанный на рок-музыке с экспериментами над звучанием базовых элементов жанра и техникой исполнения. Обычно композиции экспериментального рока являются полной противоположностью стандартной музыкальной структуры «куплет-припев-куплет». Так как в целом главной идеей является стилевая свобода и новаторство, то в этом направлении музыки не существует устроявшихся правил, но среди характерных признаков стиля выделяют импровизации, влияние авангардной музыки, присутствие нестандартных для рока инструментов, сложные тексты песен (или вообще их отсутствие), странные необычные композиционные структуры и ритмы, а так же фундаментальное отвержение коммерческих стремлений.
