For the French domestic market, the films that the company produces are more culturally oriented, being directed by arthouse directors such as Mimmo Calopresti. The studio is entirely based in France, being located in properties in Normandy and Paris that are owned by Besson himself. It is financed entirely through reinvestment of the box office revenues of films directed or produced by Besson. EuropaCorp's digital post-production studio, Digital Factory, is located in a 17th-century castle in Normandy owned by Besson. In April 2002 a subsidiary, EuropaCorp Japan, was created, to link EuropaCorp with Japanese distributor Asmik-Ace. In 2001, EuropaCorp signed a three-year production deal with Vivendi-Universal. Vivendi bought exhibition rights to several of EuropaCorp's films, the money going towards financing Digital Factory. The French press, in August 2003, listed EuropaCorp amongst the companies that most avoided having to pay social benefits to their employees by making use of casual work contracts. In October 2008, Jean-Julien Baronnet became EuropaCorp's CEO, replacing Besson, who continued chairman of the board of directors.
