Erskine Sanford (1885 – 1969) was an American actor in films from the late 1930s. A member of Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre company, he also appeared in several of Welles' films, most notably as the bumbling, perspiring newspaper editor Herbert Carter in Citizen Kane. Erskine Sanford lived the last decades of his life in the "gardener's cottage" on the Hollywood estate of a friend. Condos now occupy that location on the corner of DeLongpre and N. Flores.
