Ernesto "Ernie" Caceres (Nov. 22, 1911 - Jan. 10, 1971) was an American jazz musician born in Rockport, Texas. Caceres's brothers were both musicians; Emilio was a norteño violinist and Pinero was a trumpeter and pianist. Caceres himself played clarinet, guitar, alto and baritone saxophone, and first played professionally in 1928 in local Texas ensembles. He and Emilio moved to Detroit and then New York, taking work as session musicians where they could.

Caceres himself played clarinet, guitar, alto and baritone saxophone, and first played professionally in 1928 in local Texas ensembles. He and Emilio moved to Detroit and then New York, taking work as session musicians where they could. In 1938 Caceres became a member of Bobby Hackett's band, and thereafter became a highly sought sideman, playing with Jack Teagarden in 1939 and then in Glenn Miller's orchestra from February 1940 to September 1942. While with Miller, he made an appearance in the films Sun Valley Serenade (1941) and Orchestra Wives (1942). Time with Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, and Tommy Dorsey followed later in the 1940s. In 1949 he put together his own quartet, playing at the Hickory Log in New York. He was a frequent performer with the Gary Moore Orchestra on television. At the beginning of the 1960s he played with the Billy Butterfield Band. In 1964 he moved back to Texas and played in a band with brother Emilio from 1968 until his death of cancer in 1971.

Im Sommer 1938 spielte Caceres bei Bobby Hackett und 1939 Tenorsaxophon bei Jack Teagarden. 1940 bis 1942 war er in der Glenn Miller Band (zweites Altsaxophon), mit der er auch in den Filmen „Sun Valley Serenade“ und „Orchestra Wives“ auftrat. Danach spielte er bei Johnny Long, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey und Woody Herman, bevor er 1945 eingezogen wurde. Nach der Entlassung spielte er in New York im „Nick´s“, in der Band des Trompeters Billy Butterfield und häufig bis in die 1950er Jahre mit Eddie Condon, arbeitete aber vor allem als Studiomusiker. 1949 leitete er ein eigenes Quartett im New Yorker „Hickory Log“. In den 1950er Jahren spielte er auch regelmäßig im Gary Moore Orchestra im Fernsehen und mit Bobby Hackett (im „Henry Hudson Hotel“ 1956). Anfang der 1960er Jahre spielte er wieder mit Billy Butterfield, trat häufig auf Jazzfestivals auf und zog dann 1964 zurück nach San Antonio in Texas, wo er in lokalen Bands spielte, u. a. mit seinem Bruder Emilio sowie in der „Riverwalk Band“ von Jim Cullum im „The Landing“ (Cullum´s Club) in San Antonio. 1971 starb er an Kehlkopfkrebs. Caceres war ein gefragter Sideman der neben den oben genannten auch u. a. mit Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Roy Eldridge, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Hot Lips Page und Muggsy Spanier auf. Caceres spielte viele Instrumente, ist aus seiner Swing-Zeit aber vor allem als Baritonsaxophonist bekannt. Seine Enkel David und Anthony arbeiten ebenfalls als Jazzmusiker in Houston.
