Ernest Goes to Africa received a PG rating from the MPAA for "language, some mild violence and brief sexual innuendo. " The film was shot entirely in Johannesburg,South Africa. A year later, its sequel, Ernest in the Army, (aka Stormin' Ernest) was filmed in Cape Town.
