Erik Barnouw was a U.S. historian of radio and television broadcasting. Born in Den Haag in the Netherlands, Barnouw became a professor at Columbia University in New York after emigrating to the United States. In 1978 he became chief of the Library of Congress's newly created Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division. He is best known for his history of U.S. radio and television, his history of documentary films, and for his film about Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
