Eric L. Haney (born August 22, 1952) is a retired member of the United States Army counterterrorist unit, the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1SFOD-D), more commonly known as Delta Force. In recent years he has been writing on terrorism, guerrilla warfare, and special operations.

In seinem Buch zeichnet er ein Bild der Delta Force, das von dem makellosen Image abweicht, das sich die US Army gerne gibt. Sein Insiderbericht gewährt Einblick in die harte Ausbildung und riskanten Undercover-Einsätze gegen den internationalen Terrorismus. Er verschweigt dabei weder die anfänglichen Schwächen der Organisation noch die tragischen Verluste auch bei erfolgreichen Einsätzen. Unter Veteranen der Delta Force ist er aufgrund seines Buches schlecht angesehen, da er den Kodex, nicht über die Einheit zu reden, verletzt hat und man bei ihm eher kommerzielle als zeitgeschichtliche Interessen vermutet, die ihn dazu brachten, sein Buch zu veröffentlichen.

He was a co-executive producer of the CBS television series The Unit, created by David Mamet and inspired by Haney's special operations experiences. Previously, Haney was a technical consultant on Mamet's 2004 film Spartan, starring Val Kilmer.
