Die Verarbeitungsqualität war dabei teilweise sehr gut, allerdings wurde als Korpusholz je nach Verfügbarkeit auch Erle statt Mahagoni verwendet (was bis 2005 auch auf der Epiphone-Website angegeben wurde). Seit 2002 besitzt Gibson eine eigene Fabrik in Qingdao, China, und stellt dort unter anderem die G-400 her. Nach wie vor wird bei der Epiphone Polyurethanlack verwendet, bei der Gibson SG Nitrozelluloselack.
