Enrique Jiménez Fernández, known as Enrique el Mellizo was a famous flamenco singer, the most influential one in the development of the Cádiz flamenco styles. Together with Silverio Franconetti and Antonio Chacón, he is considered to be one of the most important figures in the development of flamenco. He was the author of one of the most important malagueña styles, and is reported to have created or developed some styles of Soleares, Alegrías, and Tangos.

  • Su verdadero nombre fue Francisco Antonio Enrique Jiménez Fernández, debiendo su apodo a que su padre era mellizo por lo comenzó a conocérsele como Enrique el hijo del Mellizo. Compaginaba su actividad musical y las actuaciones en los cafés cantantes de Cádiz con su profesión de puntillero y matarife en el matadero gaditano. Sus cantes eran de enorme belleza según el testimonio de los que los que lo escucharon, pues carecemos de grabaciones. Se cuenta que el gran cantaor Manuel Torre lloró la primera vez que lo oyó cantar. Tuvo un amplio repertorio destacando sus interpretaciones de malagueñas. Engrandeció algunos estilos como las alegrías, la saeta por siguiriyas o los tientos. Fue también el creador del cante por soleares gaditano. Falleció a los 58 años como consecuencia de una tuberculosis pulmonar. Modernamente se le considera uno de los artistas principales de la llamada Edad de Oro del flamenco.
