  • Elizabeth South railway station is a railway station on the Gawler railway line which is located in the northern Adelaide suburbs of Elizabeth South and Edinburgh. The station opened in the 1940s and once had a shelter and ticket office identical of that to Woodlands Park, but was replaced with the current shelter in the late 1970s/early 1980s. It is located 24.0 km by railway from the Adelaide Railway Station and has an island platform between the two railway tracks. Pedestrians cross the tracks at level since the underpass was closed due to concerns about safety and vandalism. There is a walking track to the station for employees of DSTO. This station is regarded as one of Adelaide's least-looked after stations; there is a lot of graffiti, frequent vandalism, and it is not unusual for abandoned and stolen cars to be found burnt out in the parking area adjacent to the station. This makes the station unappealling. However, the steep increase in petrol prices in 2008, (from about Aus$1.00/litre to about Aus$1.80/litre), has lead to greatly increased usage of the station during weekday peak hours. This station may get an upgrade in the near future.
