Edgar Gold, CM, AM is an Australian-Canadian lawyer, author, academic, and Master Mariner. He is one of the leading experts in the areas of international ocean law and marine and environmental policy development. He was born in Hamburg, Germany, but later moved to Australia in 1952. Edgar moved again to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1967. He received a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University. He received a Ph.D. in international maritime law from the University of Wales.

He is one of the leading experts in the areas of international ocean law and marine and environmental policy development. He was born in Hamburg, Germany, but later moved to Australia in 1952. Edgar moved again to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1967. He received a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University. He received a Ph.D. in international maritime law from the University of Wales. He was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1973. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1995. He spent sixteen years in the merchant marine. He joined the Faculty of Law of Dalhousie University in 1975 and from 1975 to 1994 was a Professor of Law and from 1986 to 1996 was a Professor of Resource and Environmental Studies. He is a founding member of Dalhousie Law School’s Marine and Environmental Law Programme. Since 2000, he is an Adjunct Professor at the T.C. Beirne School of Law, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. In 1997, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada . In 2005, he was made a Member of the Order of Australia "for service to maritime law and protection of the environment as a policy developer and adviser, and through academic roles and involvement in international maritime organisations" .

Il est né à Hambourg, Allemagne, et réside ensuite en Australie en 1952 puis à Halifax, Nouvelle-Écosse en 1967. Il a obtenu un baccalauréat en Arts et en lois de l'université de Dalhousie. Il a également obtenu un doctorat en droit maritime international de l'université de Wales. Il a été accepté au barreau de la Nouvelle-Écosse en 1973. Il a été nommé au Conseil de la Reine en 1995. Il travaille 16 ans dans la marine marchande. Il rejoint la faculté de droit de de l'université de Dalhousie en 1975, il en était le professeur de droit de 1975 à 1994 et de 1984 à 1996 il en était le professeur des Ressources et des Études Environnementales. Il est un des membres fondateurs du Programme des Lois Maritimes et Environnementales de l'université de Dalhousie. Depuis 2000 il est professeur adjoint a l'école de lois, T.C. Beirne à l'université de Brisbane au Queensland, en Australie. Il est membre de l'Ordre du Canada.
