He recorded his first album, Ed Haynes Sings Ed Haynes in 1989. It was released by Apache Records and distributed by Capitol. It featured the college radio and brief MTV staple I Wanna Kill Everybody. People Magazine reviewed this album in its May 1, 1989 issue, noted his "vague sense of social consciousness" and declared Ed "extremely interesting", a comment that Ed described as "somewhat interesting" in a press release. This album is now out of print and copies are highly coveted by musicologists . Ed recorded a special version of his song Rude for the 1990 album Acoustic Music Project, a benefit for Project Angel Food, which provides meals for AIDS patients and other people with life-threatening illness. In 1998, Ed rushed to follow up his success with this release of his second effort, Poolside Phone. After relocating to Portland, Oregon with his wife Victoria, he released his third album, Snacking With A Vengeance in 2004.
