eINIT is a replacement for sysvinit, an init system used on Unix-based operating systems. eINIT is designed with speed in mind. Many testers claim that their systems boot up in 30 seconds, whereas sysvinit takes around two minutes to boot. eINIT is still beta software and its creator warns: Note, this is very [sic] beta software, and should be used as such. You may have problems with it, such as random reboots, filesystem corruption, etc.

  • eINIT is a replacement for sysvinit, an init system used on Unix-based operating systems. eINIT is designed with speed in mind. It seems that on most machines it will not cleanly unmount filesystems, but this is being worked on and may be fixed by the time you read this. Also some people experience random reboots and lockups after install, but these seem to sort themselves out after a couple of times, so don’t give up! Arguably, this warning is currently quite outdated; most of these bugs have been fixed and stable releases tend to be stable enough for use. This led to the Sabayon Linux distribution approaching eINIT developers about including eINIT as an alternative to their current init; due to bad timing, however, this has been postponed to the 2008 release of Sabayon. On September 15th, 2008 was announced that "... basically einit has been abandoned and we're prepping up a successor called 'kyuba'"
