The main session, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder at the Manhattan Towers, NYC on 2 November 1958, is a showcase for an all-star drumming lineup of Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Roy Haynes and Ray Barretto (congas). They are supported by regular Jazz Messenger members Lee Morgan (trumpet), Bobby Timmons (piano) and Jymie Merritt (bass).
