Dravograd is a small town and a municipality in northern Slovenia, close to the border of Austria. It lies on the river Drava at the confluence with the Meža and the Mislinja. Eerst na deze serie van kleine en grote rampspoed, in de loop van de 16e eeuw, nam Dravograd de draad weer op als handels- en stapelplaats voor met name hop, wijn, zout en ijzerwaren. In 1863 werd Dravograd aangesloten op de nieuwe spoorlijn van Klagenfurt naar Maribor en in 1899 op de spoorverbinding tussen Velenje en Wolfsberg in Oostenrijk. Dit gaf gelegenheid tot het opbouwen van een bescheiden industrie (een glasfabriek en ijzergieterij). Toen de plaats voor het eerst tussen 1180 en 1192 werd vermeld, bezat het al marktrechten. Dravograd nam toen reeds tolgelden en cijnzen ten aanzien van het goederenvervoer over de Drava in. In Dravograd bevinden zich twee historische kerken, de parochiekerk van Sint-Jan en de votiefkerk van de H. Guido. Deze laatste dateert van vóór 1177.

The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist and belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Maribor. It is first mentioned in written documents dating to the late 14th century. It was rebuilt in 1520 and in 1621. The current church is Baroque with a characteristic onion dome on its belfry. A second church in the town is dedicated to Saint Vitus and is a late 12th century Romanesque building. The name Dravograd was invented during the Slovene national revival in the 19th century. Previously, the local Slovene name of the town was Traberk, a corruption of the German name Drauburg. Up to these days, the name Traberk is used by many locals instead of Dravograd.
