Dr. Slump is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama. It was serialized in Shueisha's anthology comic Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1980 to 1984 which were collected into 18 tankōbon volumes. The manga was adapted into an anime series by Toei Animation that ran from 1981 to 1986 consisting of 243 episodes and a remake series consisting of 74 episodes that ran from 1997 to 1999.

El anime no alcanzó mucha popularidad y sólo contó con 40 episodios exclusivos para Japón. También hubo una segunda temporada (tercera para Japón), esta vez bastante más popular, nuevamente escrita por Takao Koyama pero dibujada por Tadayoshi Yamamuro, saliendo al aire por primera vez el 27 de noviembre de 1996.

Le vicende degli abitanti del villaggio in cui è ambientata la storia spesso sfidano tutte le regole del senso comune, quando non della fisica o del fumetto stesso (non è raro assistere ad intrusioni dell'autore sotto forma di un robot caricato a molla, o scene in cui le vignette non sono finite oppure sono attraversati dai personaggi gli "spazi bianchi" fra di esse).
