Doug Knight was an three time All-American lacrosse player at University of Virginia from 1993 to 1996. He is also the all-time career leading scorer for the Cavaliers with 165 goals and 84 assists for 249 points. Knight was a member of two UVA final teams, with both the 1994 and 1996 title games being one goal overtime losses to Princeton. Doug played briefly for Rochester and Baltimore in the National Lacrosse League.

Knight was also on the Major League Lacrosse Boston Cannons and Philadelphia Barrage where he tallied 22 goals and 16 assists in 18 games. Doug is a member of the UVA Hall of Fame. He was one of the main proponents of the "Dive Shot", a shot where the player attacks from behind the cage and goes airborne prior to shooting the ball. The NCAA subsequently banned this practice. Knight has also served as an assistant lacrosse coach, for University of Virginia St. Paul's School and the Haverford School. Knight attended prep at the Westminster School in Connecticut.
