Donald Virgil Bluth (born September 13, 1937) is an American animator and independent studio owner. He is best known for his departure from the Walt Disney Company in 1979 and his subsequent directing of animated classics such as The Secret of Nimh (1982), An American Tail (1986), and The Land Before Time (1988).

Y luego a su primer largometraje, NIMH, el mundo secreto de la señora Brisby (1982), que a pesar de no haber recaudado demasiado, es considerado por muchos la obra maestra de Bluth. Bluth incursionó en los videojuegos de arcade con el lanzamiento de Dragon's Lair en 1983, un juego con animaciones innovadoras para esa época, que utilizaba vídeo pregrabado en un disco óptico Laserdisc. Y luego en 1984 con Space Ace, un juego de ciencia ficción basado en la misma tecnología.
